City Strolls - events - meetings

Tuesday, June 14, 2005

Welcome to another Glasgow Autonomy Update.

Our featured item this week is the ongoing campaign against the M74 motorway extension - a 6 lane elevated motorway that will plough through the Southside of Glasgow, increasing pollution and noise at a cost of up to £1 billion.

Jam74 is the umbrella group which has been campaigning on this issue for several years. As well as launching legal challenges to the motorway they have been educating Glasgow people about the damage it will cause. Recently there have been Jam74 cycle rides "to save our city" and show a positive alternative to increased car use. http://www.jam74.org/

Tied in with the anti-M74 campaign is the Cre8 Summit project in Glasgow. This week they're busy making a community garden in one of the areas the M74 will affect - read on in the Sustainability section for more details.

=====================================================================

PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT EVENTS HAPPENING IN AND AROUND GLASGOW SO THAT WE CAN INCLUDE THEM NEXT WEEK.

Preferred format is a short summary, with practical details of when and where, and a link to a web page for more detail. If you do not have a web site of your own, the excellent http://scotland.indymedia.org/ allows anyone to easily create a page letting others know what you have been, or are up to.

Send that to glasgowautonomyupdates@lists.riseup.net before Sunday for inclusion in the following week.
