Don't Let Employers Get Away With Murder 9.30am, Thurs 2nd August Demonstration - Glasgow Sheriff Court, Carlton Place (adjacent to Mosque)

HARD WORK NEVER KILLED ANYONE…. Well us here at the Graham Meldrum Memorial Campaigh don’t agree with that, work kills and maims. Families against Corporate killers estimate that 1,700 people are killed annually in workplace incidents, that’s not including the thousands who die of occupational diseases. We refuse to use the word accident because over 70% of deaths and injuries are due to management health and safety issues. > Like F.a.c.k. we want government action to implement laws of corporate manslaughter for employers who negleigently kill and maim workers. If they take the profits they musty take the responsibility. We are disgusted at the slashing of the health and safety executive budget meaning less inspections and what there is is ineffective. We call for more power for all workers and safety reps. More importantly we ask you to look after yourselves and your work colleagues, don’t do anything that is unsafe and don't expect anyone else to do it. We can't bring Graham back or any of the countless others but together we can fight to stop other needless deaths.

Welcome to another Glasgow Autonomy Update. 23 July

Please see this week's Solidarity section for details of how you can help a local activist targetted by media lies. By joining the fundraising campaign, you can ensure the Evening Times are held accountable for the lies they printed during 2005's G8 summit.
Thanks for your patience with the patchy updates service this month - Autonomy Updates are written by volunteers and holiday cover became a problem! We are sorry to have missed covering some very worthwhile events in July. Regular weekly updates will now be resumed! Have a good week!

Would you like to become involved in a new Housing Co-operative in Glasgow?

We are looking for people to help start a housing and community project with the aim to co-create a communal living place and also to provide spaces and create situations for a wide-range of cultural and political events.
We are an open collective based on mutual aid and trust who would like to hear from people who are interested in making a colourful and welcoming home. As we wish to help shape our communities and contribute to social and environmental change, we also envisage the opening of a space that acts as a neighbourhood hub. This might involve facilitating a self-organised community centre, a not-for-profit café and bookshop, the setting up of studios for local artists, workshops for workers’ co-operatives, office space for campaign groups, producing a vegetable garden, and so on.

By participating in all areas of our life that are undermined, we intend to take back control of the way we live, work, and socialise.

This project is in its early stages and the eventual outcome will be determined by the people who choose to make it. No specific experience, knowledge or skills are necessary, and this project should be inclusive of all persons. But we do want to live in a peaceful, honest, and sharing environment, so if this interests you, regardless of your situation then we are open to your ideas, and welcome your involvement and suggestions at any time.

Should you wish to contact us for more information, please feel free to email:

icglasgow@hotmail.co.uk

Join the Big blockade Faslane 365 campaign Faslane 365 1st October 2007

Hi Bob,

I am involved in the Faslane 365 campaign and member of the Glasgow group. I have attached a flyer for the Big Blockade on Oct. 1st - it would be absolutely brilliant if you could highlight it on your sites. We are having at meeting at Mono on Tues 24th July and it would be great of you felt you could come along. The meeting is about how to mobilise people in Glasgow to come along to the blockade. Over the year we have had 100s of people come from all over the UK and abroad to the blockades but very very few from Glasgow and Scotland in general and it has most impact here. It would be great to have your input on why that maybe and how we can mobilise people locally. It is an issue that cuts across all others, the £70 billion they have voted to spend on renewing Trident would easily solve the health, housing and environment problems in Glasgow and could be invested to create enterprise that people want.

Any help you can give greatfully welcomed.

With respect and in peace,
Faslane 365 Big Blockade 1st October 2007

Help plan Glasgow Residents Network conference - ongoing

Glasgow Residents Network is to host a conference this summer, to establish a federation of residents bodies. There are groups and individuals active in fighting unwanted
developments, fighting for better social housing, or against
demolitions and groups fighting against homeowners charges (and much
much else besides).

We are therefore calling on individuals from across the city to help
plan and co-ordinate the conference with us. It's likely to be held
in August or September. We need your ideas for what should be on the
agenda, so that we can really get this off the ground with a bang!
There are likely to be a large number of community campaigners like
yourselves in attendance and so it's vital that we get this planning
right.

If you or your group would like to be involved in planning the
conference please email us at this address or get back to us at
07976718111, and we'll make it happen together.

If you can help, please get in touch today!

PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT EVENTS HAPPENING IN AND AROUND GLASGOW SO THAT WE CAN INCLUDE THEM NEXT WEEK.

Preferred format is a short summary, with practical details of when and where, and a link to a web page for more detail. If you do not have a web site of your own, the excellent http://scotland.indymedia.org/ allows anyone to easily create a page letting others know what you have been, or are up to.

Send that to glasgowautonomyupdates@lists.riseup.net before Monday for inclusion in the following week.
