250 Years of Glasgow Astronomy - & - GLASGOW UNIVERSITY SCIENCE FESTIVAL

250 Years of Glasgow Astronomy Thursday 26th April 7pm,
University of Glasgow, Boyd Orr Lecture TheatreAugust 2007 marks the 250th Anniversary of the opening of the first Astronomical Observatory in Glasgow in the College Grounds close to what is now the High Street in the City. Practical astronomy in Glasgow has traditionally had a worldwide profile making its mark through solar studies and an internationally renowned star catalogue. The talk will present an insight of Glasgow's Astronomy activities over 250 years. Come
and find out why there is an "Observatory Road" off Byres Road and get up to date with some of the local current Astronomical Research.Dr David Clarke is the former director of the Observatory in Glasgow

GLASGOW UNIVERSITY SCIENCE FESTIVAL 09 Mar 2007 - 28 Jun 2007 - create,
discover, explore.
A huge range of lively and interactive activities. This free festival
starts with a schools programme during National Science and Engineering
Week (Mar 9th - 18th) and a public lectures series which continues on
through to the summer. There are kids workshops during the Easter
holidays, a summer schools programme and 3 family weekends in June. The
programme is packed full of things to make, create, see, discover and
explore. It includes the chance to extract DNA, build and keep your own
radio, make and race a solar car, see a glass smashed with sound,
explore parasites, see indoor lightning, lie on a bed of nails and much
much more!.......... A highlight will be the celebration of the
re-opening of the Hunterian Museum following its present closure for
