Free Wheel North is a social enterprise connecting pedal power with advertising and a healthier, greener Glasgow. Glasgow City Council has given FWN a rent free unit, under Steven Purcell’s Glasgow4Business initiative.
Within a couple of years, FWN aims are to establish a fleet of 60 high tech rickshaws for tourists and shoppers. Revenue shall be generated from advertising - passengers travel FREE. They will be the Gondolas of Glasgow.
The aim of FWN will be to develop a first rate accessible-for-all network of cyclepaths through the parks, shopping areas, tourist routes, towpaths and walkways of Glasgow. For people or freight, FWN rickshaws will reduce the carbon footprint of the city, generate health through activity, and be a vanguard for all human powered wheels.
Teaming up with disabled groups, FWN shall provide cycling opportunities for the disabled on special cycling machines that can carry up to four people. Disabled access shall ensure access for tandems, trailers and tricycles as well as rickshaws on a joined-up cycling network.
FWN will work on a building a traffic-free, barrier-free, fully interconnected cycling haven surpassing even Copenhagen in quality.
The 21st century is pedal powered.
