All who agree with our vision statement are welcome at our meetings:
"We strive for a sustainable society where all people are free to live their lives as they see fit without fear of oppression, persecution or marginalization insofar as this does not prevent others from doing the same. FILM SCREENINGS AND PUBLIC TALKS

---

Weapons of Mass Deception (WMD) - Friday 18th March

There were two wars going on in Iraq - one was fought with armies of soldiers, bombs and a fearsome military force. The other was fought alongside it with cameras, satellites, armies of journalists and propoganda techniques.

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Room 550, Graham Hills Buiding, Strathclyde University. Free (Donations appreciated)

---

'Land and Freedom' by Ken Loach - Monday 21st and Friday 25th March

It is 1936, and the Spanish Army, led by the fascist general Franco, is trying to wrest control of the country from the democratic government. Land and Freedom pulls no punches in it’s portrayal of the horrors of war, yet it tells a moving story in a surprisingly delicate way.

Monday 21st - 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Lecture Theatre 1, Boyd Orr Building, Glasgow University.
Friday 25th - 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Room 550, Graham Hills Building, Strathclyde University.

Free (Donations welcome)

---

Introduction to Rebel Clowning - Saturday 26th March

A short workshop and introduction to the Theory & Practice of Rebel
Clowning, presented by the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army. Learn
how to creatively confront the powers that be with humour, big shoes and
custard pies.

Centre for Contemporary Arts, Sauchiehall Street, 2-5pm

http://www.clownarmy.org/

---

'Surplus' and 'Total Rubbish' - Monday, 28th March

Surplus: This film about consumerism totally consumed us. It used the language of music video, propaganda and commercial advertising as a response to the forces of globalisation. It fights fire with fire.

Total Rubbish: Navigating the waste stream, from the midden to the dump, ‘Total Rubbish’, by Paul Welsh, follows the men who clear Glasgow in a never-ending cycle of collection and disposal.

3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Lecture Room 1, Boyd Orr Building, Glasgow University.
Free (Donations welcome)

---

Israeli terrorism and Palestinian resistance - Wednesday 20th April

Ted Honderich is Grote Professor of the Philosophy of Mind and Logic at University College London. He is the author of How Free Are You? and the editor of the widely-used Oxford Companion to Philosophy. His new book After the Terror addresses questions raised by September 11.

The British branch of Oxfam International declined to accept a donation of £5,000 in royalties from the book after a Canadian newspaper raised the issue of a statement made in the book as to the rights of the Palestinians. A representative of Oxfam will be invited to attend and outline their position in relation to Palestinian human rights.

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM, Renfield Saint Stephen's Parish Church, 260 Bath Street, Glasgow
Free

To register for the workshop, contact Victoria Rudebark at the Iona Community office: 0141-332 63 43

=====================================================================

PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT EVENTS HAPPENING IN AND AROUND GLASGOW SO THAT WE CAN INCLUDE THEM NEXT WEEK.

Preferred format is a short summary, with practical details of when and where, and a link to a web page for more detail. If you do not have a web site of your own, the excellent http://scotland.indymedia.org/ allows anyone to easily create a page letting others know what you have been, or are up to.

Send that to glasgowautonomyupdates@lists.riseup.net before Sunday for inclusion in the following week.

We strive for a sustainable society where all people are free to live their lives as they see fit without fear of oppression, persecution or marginalization insofar as this does not prevent others from doing the same. We see this fulfilled thru a society built upon principles of co-operation, solidarity, mutual-aid, direct democracy and freedom of association.

We are currently in the process of creating a social centre.

A place to have a cup of tea in a friendly, non commercial space, read a book or magazine and find out about stuff that's going on in the city, the country and the rest of the world.

A meeting place for wayward souls.

A resource centre for groups fighting for autonomy, freedom, solidarity, equality, sustainability, mutual aid and peace against poverty, war and oppression.

If you would like to contribute to the project financially please note the following details. We are looking for one-off donations but especially standing orders.
