Friday May 19 at 7.30pm in Wellington Church hall, Southpark Avenue:

ASYLUM SEEKERS' STORIES
PUBLIC FILM SHOW OF 'DUNGAVEL' AND 'WELCOME'The evening will highlight what is really happening to people who seek sanctuary in this country... An asylum seeker who has been refused leave to stay in the UK will tell their own real-life story - providing they have not previously been removed forcibly from Glasgow. Followed by discussion. Everyone concerned about the plight of people seeking sanctuary in Scotland is welcome to attend.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB at Wellington Church on University Avenue. We meet in the church hall on Fridays at 7.30pm till 9pm for a very informal social exchange ranging from sharing connections to the Tsunami - some of the overseas students lost family and couldn't go back - to learning how to do some of the basic Scottish country dances and comparing customs worldwide. We want to open this meeting on Asylum Seekers' experiences to a wider audience and the hall (entered from Southpark Avenue which is one way down to University Ave for anyone driving) can seat 200 easily. Wellington Church is the temple like building almost opposite the University Main Gates. I have asked one 'section 4' person I know quite well if they'd speak and await their response. But if there was anyone you know who'd wish to take that opportunity to say 'The films tell you a good bit of the story but here is the reality for me as a human being....' then that would be good to arrange.
there is always a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink at the end!
One of the students - a lawyer from Canada - will chair the discussion after the two films have been screened and the speaker(s) have had the platform.
cheers
