URGENT help needed for Cameroonian man - Tuesday 28th August

ANATOLE BLAISE TAKUETE FOUMOUO
HO Ref T1135980
Date of birth: 13th March 1978

Flight details: Tuesday 28th August Flight number KQ101 Kenya Airlines from Heathrow to Nairobi at 20.00hrs

Anatole was detained when signing at the Home Office last week on Thursday August 23rd. He was taken to Dungavel, where, due to an outbreak of measles there he had to be taken to Govan Police station. He was transferred to Oakingham Detention Centre in Cambridgeshire, England.

Anatole fled Cameroon because he's a Christian and could not accept the traditions of his tribe when he succeeded his father as a village elder. His tribal chief had him imprisoned by the local police for eight days and denied food and water before he managed to escape.

Since arriving in the UK Anatole has been subject to neurological examination because he seems to be suffering from epilepsy, possibly brought on by his treatment in prison in Cameroon. However this factor has not been considered by the Immigration Tribunal as the cause of his epilepsy has not yet been fully diagnosed.

Demonstration against corporate killing - Thursday 30th August

Graham Meldrum Memorial Campaign announce a public demonstration against corporate killing outside Glasgow Sheriff Court from 9am. This will coincide with the third court date for ABF Grains (formerly known as Allied Bakeries) & TNT Logistics UK at 10am.

We have been waiting over 2 years to hear ABF Grains (formerly known as Allied Bakeries) & TNT Logistics UK plead guilty or not to five charges under Health & Safety Laws. Both companies have already been in court on 5th July and on 2nd Aug 2007 to make their plea and on both occasions they were granted extentions - no consideration being given to the trauma suffered over and over again by his family and friends.

In light of the recent guilty plea in the Stockline case we urge the public to join us and say NO to Corporate Killing.

Graham Meldrum Memorial Campaign - ongoing

Graham Meldrum was killed in a workplace incident on the 12th of July 2005 at Allied Bakeries in the Balmore Industrial Estate. New Housing Co-operative for Glasgow - ongoing

Would you like to become involved in a new Housing Co-operative in Glasgow?

We are looking for people to help start a housing and community project with the aim to co-create a communal living place and also to provide spaces and create situations for a wide-range of cultural and political events.

We are an open collective based on mutual aid and trust who would like to hear from people who are interested in making a colourful and welcoming home.

As we wish to help shape our communities and contribute to social and environmental change, we also envisage the opening of a space that acts as a neighbourhood hub. This might involve facilitating a self-organised community centre, a not-for-profit café and bookshop, the setting up of studios for local artists, workshops for workers’ co-operatives, office space for campaign groups, producing a vegetable garden, and so on.

Should you wish to contact us for more information, please feel free to email:

Welcome to another Glasgow Autonomy Update. 16 Aug

On Monday, please come and show your solidarity for an African woman who was stripped naked and humiliated by the Glasgow police coming to detain her. Ironically, she's being charged with police assault. The Refugees section contains the full horrific details of her story, and information on when and how you can show your support. Court Solidarity with African Woman - Monday 20th August

1pm
Outside Glasgow Sheriff Court

Last year seven police and immigration officials dawn raided an African single mother and her three year old son. She was five months pregnant at the time and was suffering severe depresson as a result of what had happened to her in her own country.

Terrified of being sent back to her own country the woman fought with the police not to take her. In her tiny flat the police and immigration officals forced her down and put her in handcuffs. Her son was taken away by the police to the Home Office. She was taken, wearing nothing but a small t-shirt, to Govan police station. At the police station she became very upset so the police stripped her naked and left her in a cell with a big window through which all the police men could see her.

She was then taken to Yarls Wood detention centre and did not see her son again for seven days.

On Monday this brave woman, who has been through so many hardships, is going on trial. She has been charged with assaulting the police.

Her lawyer says she is being made a scapegoat and that she could be sent to prison for three to five years. The court case will take at least three days.

PLEASE COME AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THIS WOMAN

She needs to have people at the court every day to show that she has many supporters.

Please bring as many people as possible

Faslane 365, get involved! - ongoing

Faslane 365 is a civil resistance project focussed in Scotland to
apply critical public pressure for the disarmament of Britain's

base at Faslane.

We are inviting groups and individuals from a wide range of public
interest organisations to join in the blockade and to use the
opportunity to raise awareness of the issues that each group is
working on and to make the links between its core issues and how the
UK's nuclear weapons system affects them.

HOUSING

PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT EVENTS HAPPENING IN AND AROUND GLASGOW SO THAT WE CAN INCLUDE THEM NEXT WEEK.

Preferred format is a short summary, with practical details of when and where, and a link to a web page for more detail. If you do not have a web site of your own, the excellent http://scotland.indymedia.org/ allows anyone to easily create a page letting others know what you have been, or are up to.

Send that to glasgowautonomyupdates@lists.riseup.net before Monday for inclusion in the following week.
