The No Borders network in the UK is expanding all the time. Its principles
of self-organised, grassroots, direct action against the racist asylum and

network in the UK, and link our struggles with others for global justice.

At the Gathering we will:

- share our stories, struggles, experiences and lessons
- discuss what works and what needs to work
- place our struggle in a wider global context
- think strategically and tactically
- improve our communications and collective work
- meet each other and build up friendship and mutual understanding

Second Vanunu Freedom Ride - Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th April

A group of us is organising the 2nd Vanunu Freedom Ride, a
bicycle ride from Faslane to London via Glasgow and
Edinburgh in April 2007. We are aiming to highlight the persecution of
Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli anti-nuclear whistle blower who was imprisoned for 18 years, and
spent 12 of these in solitary confinement. Although released from prison,
he is subject to many restrictions on his human rights, and as well as
calling for his full freedom, we oppose the existence of nuclear weapons (in
the Middle East as well as the UK and worldwide).

Our website is not fully up date, sadly, but can be
found at:

www.vanunufreedomride.org.uk

Help needed to publicise the ride, offer accomodation and organise events to coincide with the ride.

*Ride passes through Faslane, Glasgow and Edinburgh on Saturday 7th - Sunday 8th April. *

Anti-war vigil - every Thursday

Hands off Iran! No nuclear war!

Thursday 5-7 pm at the Donald Dewar Statue, Buchanan St.

and to publicise your own anti war events.

Faslane 365, get involved! - ongoing

Faslane 365 is a civil resistance project focussed in Scotland to
apply critical public pressure for the disarmament of Britain's
nuclear weapons by a continuous peaceful blockade of the Trident
base at Faslane.

We are inviting groups and individuals from a wide range of public
interest organisations to join in the blockade and to use the
opportunity to raise awareness of the issues that each group is
working on and to make the links between its core issues and how the
UK's nuclear weapons system affects them.

Faslane Peace Camp needs visitors!

Faslane Peace Camp recently celebrated its 23rd year of direct
action to oppose the Trident nuclear submarines stationed 30 miles
north of Glasgow. Visitors are always welcome, for a day, a week,
or longer!

Directions: Train from Glasgow Queen Street or 216 bus from Jamaica
Street to Helensburgh Central. Then catch the 316 bus to the peace
camp.

Join the Direct Action Against War network - ongoing

Visit us: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/directactionagainstwar/
To join our network, please send a blank email to the address below,
& then wait for the confirmation message:

directactionagainstwar-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

The DAAW message board was initially created in Jan 2003 to improve
communication around direct action, as protests and demonstrations
were carried out to protest the arrival of US B52 Bombers to the RAF
Airbase in the otherwise sleepy Cotswold village of Fairford. Since
then the message board has become home to a wide range of campaigns
and protests, from info on the next Disarm DSEi 2005, to planning
objections to the expansion of the Atomic Weapons establishment, to
defending the right to protest in Parliament Square.

Most events or actions which are asking more than just the signing
of another petition, or which are more than another march from point
A to point B, will be considered for approval as a form of direct
action.

We look forward to receiving your subscription request.

Welcome to another Glasgow Autonomous update 24 Jan

A bike theme this week, as Friday brings the first Critical Mass of 2007. Wrap up warm and reclaim the streets with other cyclists ( details in the Sustainability section).

And why not plan ahead for other actions? The Vanunu Freedom Ride this April needs people to help with accomodation and organising in Glasgow. This event raises the profile of Israel's nuclear whistleblower; the Scottish segment also takes a good look at the UK's own weapons of mass destruction, as the ride passes Faslane. Any help appreciated, see the Anti-War section.Have a good week!

Pura Vida?, Jan’s second film, exposes the devastating effects that agrochemicals used on Costa Rica's pineapple and banana plantations have on workers, communities and the environment. She worked with local trade unionist, Carlos Arguedas and his union, SITRAP to make this film.

Followed by Q&A Artist and Filmmaker Jan Nimmo

ANTI-WAR

---

---

Anti-war vigil - every Thursday

Hands off Iran! No nuclear war!

Thursday 5-7 pm at the Donald Dewar Statue, Buchanan St.

Check out www.iransolidarity.endofempire.org for upcoming events,
and to publicise your own anti war events.

---

Then catch the 316 bus to the peace
camp.

Solidarity demo for Zahra on 13.01.07

Rally outside the Home Office, Brand Street, Ibrox Saturday 13 January at 10.00 am Protest against the detention and deportation of Zahra Byansi & childrenZahra (right) and her sons, along with Mary and Henriette outside the Unit centre earlier last year.

Zahra and her two young sons were arrested in the Brand Street Home Office on Monday 7 January despite their lawyer having made a fresh claim on the Friday before. They've been taken to Dungavel and are due to be moved to Yarlswood for removal to Uganda on Wednesday 17 January.

Many of you will know Zahra from her presence at rallies against dawn raids, detention and deportation of asylum seekers and she has gladly given her support to building campaigns across the city. In particular she is an energetic and enthusiastic member of the Kingsway Amnesty Group whose successful defence against dawn raids has been an embarrassment for the Home Office and whose integrated organisation of local residents and asylum seekers is such an example to us all.

Please support this protest outside the Home Office in support of Zahra and her sons!

Faslane 365, get involved! - ongoing

Faslane 365 is a civil resistance project focussed in Scotland to apply critical public pressure for the disarmament of Britain's nuclear weapons by a continuous peaceful blockade of the Trident base at Faslane.
We are inviting groups and individuals from a wide range of public interest organisations to join in the blockade and to use the opportunity to raise awareness of the issues that each group is working on and to make the links between its core issues and how the UK's nuclear weapons system affects them.

Join the Direct Action Against War network - ongoing

Visit us: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/directactionagainstwar/
To join our network, please send a blank email to the address below,
& then wait for the confirmation message:

directactionagainstwar-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

The DAAW message board was initially created in Jan 2003 to improve communication around direct action, as protests and demonstrations were carried out to protest the arrival of US B52 Bombers to the RAF Airbase in the otherwise sleepy Cotswold village of Fairford. Since then the message board has become home to a wide range of campaigns and protests, from info on the next Disarm DSEi 2005, to planning objections to the expansion of the Atomic Weapons establishment, to defending the right to protest in Parliament Square.

Most events or actions which are asking more than just the signing of another petition, or which are more than another march from point A to point B, will be considered for approval as a form of direct action.
We look forward to receiving your subscription request.

PLEASE LET US KNOW ABOUT EVENTS HAPPENING IN AND AROUND GLASGOW SO THAT WE CAN INCLUDE THEM NEXT WEEK.

Preferred format is a short summary, with practical details of when and where, and a link to a web page for more detail. If you do not have a web site of your own, the excellent http://scotland.indymedia.org/ allows anyone to easily create a page letting others know what you have been, or are up to.

Send that to glasgowautonomyupdates@lists.riseup.net before Monday for inclusion in the following week.
